slang
This afternoon I’m working on checking our online subscriptions via University of Chicago Press Journals. (Part of my job is opening up lots and lots of PDFs.) I came across an interesting article title from the Journal of Political Economy:
Do Meetings in Smoke-Filled Rooms Facilitate Collusion?
At first I thought “smoke-filled rooms” was literal– which made me of think of all the silly and outlandish research topics we pursued back in my liberal arts college days. But then I read the abstract and realized that the phrase is political slang.
I really do learn something new every day!
